Elaris Checks the Party Before She Checks Her Damage
With Theren down to 7 HP, Elaris stops her own turn halfway through to ask what his health is, then rebuilds it to attack the pudding and heal him back to 20 in the same round.
The pudding fight has been grinding for rounds when the turn order comes around and Elaris starts to take hers.
"I'm going to attack the black pudding," she says. Then she stops. "Wait, no. Sorry."
Something's caught her attention on the map. "Ross, what's your life?"
"Yeah, it's 7."
That's the whole moment. Theren has been soaking the pudding's pseudopod hits all fight and is one bad roll from going down, and Elaris has noticed before anybody asked her to. She rebuilds the turn on the spot rather than spending it on damage alone: "So I'm going to start with black pudding, and then my bonus action will be healing words for Ross."
She gets both. The attack lands — "six plus seven is 13, it's a hit" — and the Healing Word brings Theren from 7 back up to 20, comfortably out of the range where the next hit ends him.
It's the least flashy thing anyone did all night, and it's the reason the party walked out of that chamber.
