A round after missing the goblin boss outright, Theren rolls a natural 1 on it — and Reece rules the 1 a critical hit with a consequence attached. The damage goes straight through the boss's eye socket into its brain and kills it in one shot, and the same roll snaps Theren's bow in half.
Theren's first shot at the goblin boss missed outright — the thing didn't even flinch — so he put Hunter's Mark on it and waited.
A round later it comes back around. "Apparently I'm attacking again," he says, and it starts as badly as an attack can. "That was a shitty roll." Then he reads it out: "That was a one." A natural 1 on the boss.
It stands — and Reece turns it into something else entirely. The 1 becomes a critical hit with a consequence attached, which is his standing rule for crits: something spectacular happens, and something breaks.
Both halves arrive together. The damage goes through first — "or so 19, I got," Theren says — and the arrow finds the goblin boss dead centre. "That arrow just went right into the eye socket of this goblin... straight to the brain," Reece announces, dropping the boss in a single shot.
Then the other half. "You fired your bow snap. You no longer have your bow," Reece tells him, and Theren confirms it himself: "I broke my bow." The worst roll he could have made killed the boss and cost him his bow in the same motion.
