Into the Dungeon
The session opened at 1:30 PM with the party crossing into the dungeon proper. The opening map laid out the problem: four ogres — A through D — spread across the cavern, with goblin warriors and a scatter of goblin minions in support. The party held the southern entrance. The enemies didn't wait; they started moving down.
Theren Vale opened the hunt the way a Hunter Ranger does: Hunter's Mark on Ogre C. The pink circle on the map made it official.
Fog and Friendly Fire
Barzer dropped his Fog Cloud across the middle of the cavern — the red zone on the map — with his bat familiar hovering above it. Whatever the fog did to the party's sightlines, it did worse to the enemy's coordination.
Ogre C, hurling a javelin blind out of the cloud, hit Ogre B. Killed it. One ogre down, and the party hadn't spent a thing.
The Mud Puddle
Then the fog dropped, and the battlefield told Barzer something he didn't want to hear.
What he'd taken for a rock plateau — elevated, defensible, a sensible place for a wizard to stand near — was a mud puddle. He was standing in the open, mid-cavern, with line of sight to every enemy left on the map.
One Hit Point
The fight closed out on the marked ogre. Elaris Moonveil killed Ogre C with a 1 HP hit — the exact point it had left.
The Count
Per the end-of-session notes: one goblin warrior and all four ogres dead. The battle maps also show two goblin minions marked as casualties along the way, so the goblin side of the ledger may read slightly worse than the headline.
And the threshold cleared: everyone leveled up to level 4.
What's Next
The goblins without a black circle are still in play: two goblin warriors and four goblin minions remain on the field, and they'll need to be dealt with next session. The dungeon continues past the entry cavern, and the party walks into it with new level-4 toolkits.
And one more thing, reported from the table: at the back of the cave, the party laid eyes on the thing they've taken to calling the large soup — a churning mass that is, in all likelihood, the source of the Infernal whisper that called them here in the first place. "Come to us," it said. They came. Now it's right there.
