Current Build Summary
High Elf Circle of the Land (Forest) Druid 4 | WIS 16 (+3) | DEX 16 (+3) | Spell save DC 13 | AC 17 | HP 31 | 447 gp
Prepared: Charm Person, Barkskin, Enhance Ability, Flaming Sphere, Moonbeam, Spider Climb, Spike Growth Cantrips: Fire Bolt, Poison Spray, Mage Hand Feat: Telekinetic Carrying: Studded Leather, Shield, Longsword, Scimitar, Shortbow, Disguise Kit — and the party's vial of black pudding acid and 100 gp diamond ring
AC 17 from studded leather, DEX and a shield is the best armour class in the party. Her control spells are the best in the party too. The gap is in what she has chosen to prepare.
The Gap: No Healing, At All
Seven prepared spells and not one of them heals. No Cure Wounds, no Healing Word, no Goodberry.
That leaves Selena as the party's only healer — and Selena has 16 maximum hit points and goes down to one hit. When she drops, the party has nobody who can pick her back up.
Goodberry is the fix and it is absurdly efficient. One first-level slot creates ten berries; each restores 1 hit point and feeds a creature for a day, and they keep for 24 hours. Ten berries is ten separate bonus-action heals that anyone in the party can eat without spending an action or a slot — including Selena, on herself, while unconscious allies are being stabilised by someone else.
Cast it before a long rest and hand them out. It costs one first-level slot per day and gives the party a pool of healing that does not depend on the cleric being conscious.
Priority Changes
1. Prepare Goodberry — Swap Charm Person
Charm Person is humanoid-only, needs a WIS save against DC 13, and does nothing in combat. Against goblins in a dungeon it has not landed a useful effect.
You prepare seven spells (WIS 3 + level 4) and you can change the whole list on a long rest, so this costs nothing but the decision.
2. Spike Growth Is Your Best Spell and It Is Underused
150-foot range, a 20-foot radius of ground that becomes difficult terrain and deals 2d4 piercing per 5 feet moved. No save. Ten minutes on concentration.
In a dungeon corridor this is close to unfair. Anything that wants to reach the party has to cross it, and a goblin crossing 20 feet takes 8d4 — around 20 damage — before it arrives. Combined with the party holding a chokepoint, it turns a corridor into a wall.
The rats that fled to warn their master would have been stopped by this. So would the pack that charged after the negotiation collapsed.
3. Moonbeam and Flaming Sphere Compete — Pick One Per Fight
Both are concentration, and so are Spike Growth and Barkskin. You can hold exactly one.
| Spell | When |
|---|---|
| Spike Growth | The enemy has to come to you. Corridors, chokepoints, defending a doorway. |
| Moonbeam | A tight cluster, or something that has to stay put. 2d10, moved 60 ft as an action. |
| Flaming Sphere | A single target you want followed. 2d6 and it moves 30 ft as a bonus action. |
Spike Growth is the default in this dungeon. The other two are for open rooms.
4. Barkskin Is Doing Nothing For You
Barkskin sets AC to 16. Your AC is 17. Casting it makes you worse.
It is only useful cast on someone else with worse armour — and there is nobody in this party under 16 who would benefit enough to justify your concentration. Drop it and prepare Healing Word or Cure Wounds alongside Goodberry.
What You Are Carrying For The Party
Two items in Nysera's pack matter to everyone:
The vial of black pudding acid — four ounces, collected on a clean CON save. It has not been used. It is an improvised thrown weapon and nobody has decided who throws it.
The 100 gp diamond ring. Revivify costs 300 gp of diamond per casting. This is a third of a resurrection sitting in a backpack, and it should be earmarked rather than sold.
Telekinetic
The feat gives Mage Hand at will plus a bonus-action telekinetic shove: 30 feet, STR save against DC 13, push or pull a creature 5 feet.
Five feet does not sound like much. Pushing something into Spike Growth is 2d4 for a bonus action, and pulling a fleeing enemy back into it is the same. It is also the cheapest way to break an enemy out of a doorway the party is holding.
Next Level-Up Plan
Level 5 brings third-level spells, and for a Land druid that is where the control gets serious — Call Lightning in particular sustains 3d10 every round on concentration for ten minutes, which no other party member can match.
Circle of the Land also grants Natural Recovery: on a short rest, recover spell slots totalling half your druid level rounded up. That is free casting the party is not yet getting.
